Y’all meet Gracie! I know technically if you follow along on Instagram you met her almost 3 months ago now (there is a highlight saved if you wanna go look at her grow). We got her on April 16th to be exact. Gracie is a German Shorthaired Pointer and is now 5 months.
Writing this post has made me scroll back through photos and videos which makes my puppy mama heart melt! She was sooo little when we got her. She’s now about 30 pounds and could get up to be 60. She’ll be a very big dog! Gracie is super sweet and loving. She wants to be right next to people and involved in whatever they are doing always. Her breed is known to be very active, and we take her on walks constantly. She normally gets a lot of energy in the morning and at night after eating. Something we didn’t know about GSP’s is they are known for separation anxiety, which she totally has. We were nervous what going back to work would be like after quarantine but so far she has done great in her kennel! However, if you leave her outside or in the house by herself then she panics. Her kennel is definitely her safe space.
Some other things to know about Gracie before I list off all the things we bought her. She’s a big chewer and loves wood! So we had to get her some fake wood toys so she’d stop eating the wood chips. It’s only worked about halfway. This is only some of the toys she has. We got a lot from the clearance bin at PetCo!
Things To Buy When You Get A Puppy
- Puppy food – you should talk to the breader or shelter and find out what they have already been eating and keep that going during the transition into a new home.
- Crate – or whatever bedding you’re going to have them sleep on
- Water & Food bowl
- Leash & Collar
- Treats & Bones – make sure you don’t give them rawhide! It doesnt digest well and can tear up their stomach
- Floor Cleaner – there will be accidents
- Shampoo & Brush
- Lots of toys!
