Chopping the Christmas Tree down is one of my favorite traditions! If I wasn’t in the holiday spirit before, this activity really does put me in the mood. We have a local tree farm near where we live, and my parents actually know the owners. We’ve chopped our tree down for the last 3 or 4 years now and I honestly don’t even remember anything else. I know that prior we got our tree from Home Depot, but this is wayyyyy more fun!
This year it had been raining all that day, and we only had a little break in the rain to go get the tree. The rain was perfectly timed though! Having it a little damp outside just made the smell of the pines that much more great! Every year I think my mom is looking for something a little different with the tree. This year ours is a bit taller and thinner. We always look for trees with good shelves of branches and no holes. We like a good full tree in our house. Yes, we take our Christmas tree pretty seriously.
After we chop it down, we take it home and decorate it right away. While my dad trims the bottom and shakes it out, us girls decorate the rest of the house. Then once the tree is inside it’s my job to do the lights. I’m a traditional all white lights kind of girl. Once the lights and cranberry rope is on we start on the ornaments. Every year since I can remember my parents have gotten a new ornament every year. For like the last 8 years it’s been the new one Starbucks comes up with. My parents drink wayyy too much Starbucks!
